conveyed to me Her Majesty's confirmation of that Ordinance, conditionally that certain alterations therein were made in accordance with suggestions by the Lords of the Treasury transmitted in Lord Carnarvon's despatch.
3. In my despatch No. 305 of the 31st July last, I pointed out the serious disadvantage to which the Bank might be put by altering the Ordinance, and enclosed an opinion of the Attorney General explaining that the object of Her Majesty's Government could be equally effected under the powers given to me by the Ordinance to insist on the insertion in the deed of Settlement of the various provisions suggested by Her Majesty's Treasury. To this arrangement Your

Grace was pleased to signify the Assent of Her Majesty's Government in Your despatch No 26 of the 29th April last,
and I now have the honor to transmit the Deed of Settlement framed in accordance with Your Grace's instructions, the passages
